About 50 people came, and it was a really refreshing change to be in the older half of the congregation!We were also fortunate to have Brother Paolo from the Taize Community with us.  He gave a little encouragement on prayer and praying to begin with.  Much of it chimed with my experience. It was painted in 1912 as a mural at Oslo University.Munch's life is almost a catalogue of pain.  He lost his mother and his sister when he was a child.  He was something of a depressive, suffering a breakdown. It revealed a great deal of talent (not least amongst the adults present!) and was a lot of fun. It's quite a piece of work!It's also aroused quite a bit of local interest with the radio, television and newspaper all wanting a piece about it.There are about 4500 pipes in our organ.  Each has to be removed, restored and replaced. So this evening an assembled choir sang Widor's Mass for choir and two organs as part of a eucharist. What particularly struck me was the role of the great organ.  The little organ accompanied the choir and the great organ played parts that threatened to drown out the human voice. More difficult than that is re-learning to do things that I thought I did well.  I did, it's just that I can't do them the same way here.  Preaching is probably the best example.  I was really happy with my preaching style, but it simply doesn't work in a church this size. The good folk of Foundation were there in good numbers, and we wandered in the foothills of the Cotswolds.  Stopping only to fly kites, retrace our steps (only once) and wait for one another. The whole thing was a delight, from the silent movie at the beginning to the radio controlled hamster.  The leads were excellent (including one whose hair I could envy!).  But the whole cast were superb - during the interval they moved among the audience and stayed in character for the whole time. SMR has vergers, who do very good things looking after the church, preparing for services and many other things besides.
